Most current laptop models include the necessary hardware for making 802.11-based wireless connections to Lehigh's network. For older machines, plug-in adapters that conform to the 802.11g standard can purchased at most office or electronics stores.
Be aware that another wireless communication standard called "Bluetooth" also exists, but is intended only for short-range connections with peripheral devices (mice, keyboards, remotes) rather than local-area networking. Currently, there's no Lehigh facility for networking via Bluetooth.
Also be aware that in addition to the 802.11b/g wireless communication standards, there is an authentication standard that Lehigh's network uses called "802.1X". This is the protocol that allows us to limit network access to people with Lehigh user accounts. Windows XP, Vista, and Mac OS X all support this, but require specific configuration to use it, as described in the documents below.
