Software for WIRED Computers

Lehigh University and the WIRED program provide a number of software packages to make using your computer at school as productive as possible, including Symantec AntiVirus, Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.

Wired Software Downloads

• Virus Protection
  The Security Page includes instructions and downloads for Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition and Symantec Endpoint Protection. They're available only to Lehigh students, faculty and staff, so a Lehigh login is required.
• Spyware Protection
  Spybot Search & Destroy is a free and well regarded spyware protection program for Windows PCs. It's fairly effective, and updated frequently for new threats; check often!
• WIRED Login Clients
  These are custom-written utilities for accessing Lehigh LAN file storage (H-drive, I-drive, and sometimes Y). WIRED highly recommends that students store schoolwork there.

• Printer Installation Scripts
  The WIRED Printer Selector is a website that allows you to download scripts for connecting to LTS printers: WIRED (Residence Halls), Departmental, and Public Sites
• Preferred Email Program
  Customized installers for Mozilla Thunderbird. These provide a configuration wizard option for auto-configuring Lehigh settings on first-run.

• Recommended Web Browser
  WIRED recommends browsing with Mozilla's FireFox.
• Winsockfix.exe - Windows XP only
  Fixes/resets/repairs Internet access (TCP/IP protocol)

  Setup instructions for configuring your computer for access to Lehigh systems (PC and Mac).

  Detailed info on other WIRED programs and features.
• Wireless Setup Instructions - Includes configuration instructions, as well as a listing of locations where wireless access is available.

Microsoft Software -- Windows and Office
Full-time students who have paid the "Technology Fee" are also entitled to copies of various Microsoft products, including Windows and Office (for both Mac and PC).

• A Microsoft Office installer, which includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and Access can be downloaded from http://www.lehigh.edu/software. Be ready with your Lehigh login.
• For Microsoft Windows Vista, users must obtain their disk from the Campus Bookstore by paying a nominal media fee. These disks (or at least the product keys affixed to their packaging) are valuable, and can not be replaced if lost -- be careful with them!

Please note that the timing of distribution of new versions of these products is dependant on Microsoft, it's partners, and our Campus Agreement with them. Generally, due to the logistics of obtaining and distributing media, products on hard media are made available the semester following their release. Products distributed via download are generally available more quickly.

LAN Applications
LTS's Install Software page, which requires Internet Explorer and a connection to the Y:drive (WIRED client does this), and allows students with Windows XP to install a variety of PC software packages for specific courses. (Mac Versions are not available)
