* A limited number of $500 need-based scholarships are also available. Applications will be evaluted according to a student's financial need and an essay describing the possible significance of this experience to their academic and professional development.

$5,750 - This includes tuition for six credits and double occupancy room. The program cost also includes an International Student ID Card. Not included: airfare, local travel, meals, laundry, personal expenses, personal weekend travel or other costs.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Paris with its distict cultural heritage offers a rich combination of the past and the modern. The program course offerings have been selected to take maximum advantage of the location within the heart of France.

Students will be able to study the urban form of Paris developed during a century of change, as well as the most recent architecture in Paris and the metropolitan area. No previous training in architecture required. All Lehigh students are welcome to apply.

Our residence at the Cite Universitaire (Swiss Pavilion) is located within this International Campus of Paris University and a short distance from the heart of historic Paris:

10-15 minutes from Notre Dame, Saint-Michel and the Latin Quarter
10-15 minutes from Boulevard Saint-Germain and its famous outdoor cafes
10 minutes from the Montparnasse district and its movie theatres and reputed cafes
10 minutes from the beautiful Luxembourg Garden and 1 minute across the street from Montsouris Park in which attracted famous painters in the past, for your morning jog.

When we get to Paris we will purchase for you a “CARTE ORANGE”, which is a metro/bus pass and which will allow you to travel everywhere in Paris for the whole month. Make sure you bring an ID picture with you which will be needed to append to “CARTE ORANGE” your individual (Metro and Bus Pass).

ACCOMODATIONS

Students will live at Cite Internationale Universitaire de Paris, safe, secure and convenient for travel by metro & bus to class and other parts of the city. For their meals, students will also have access to the large Cite Universitaire Student Restaurant and several inexpensive student restaurants around the campus.

FRANCE FROM MEDIEVAL TO MODERN: POLITICS, SOCIETY, AND ART

France’s artistic, cultural, social and political development from early
kingship and the dominance of the Church in the Middle Ages to the
grandeur of the court at Versailles in the Age of Absolutism; the
radical transformation of culture and society during the French
Revolution and advent of the Modern Nation-State; to twentieth century developments including the two World Wars, imperialism and impact of post-war globalization.Course pays particular attention to the history of artistic movements, including Church art, the Baroque, Classicism, Romanticism, Realism, Impressionism and Modernism, as indexes of social and cultural change.Offered in summer only through Lehigh Study Abroad Office as part of Lehigh in Paris program.

PARIS, THE PLANNING OF A METROPOLIS

(3 credits) (HU)

The splendor of modern Paris is due in large part, large to bold, large-scale modernization and changes in the city’s patterns during the 19th century. From a crowded labyrinth of decaying tenements, magnificent buildings, large thoroughfares, bridges, and parks were constructed. The course will cover a century of change, and focus on the major accomplishments of its visionary planners.
