Junior S.T.A.R. Academy
Guidelines |Components | Junior S.T.A.R. Committee

In fall of 1997, the S.T.A.R. Academy expanded its efforts creating a pilot program called the "Junior S.T.A.R. Academy" for twenty (20) fourth grade students. Each fourth grade student (tutee) was paired with a tutor/mentor who was a current high school student in the regular S.T.A.R. Academy or a college tutor/mentor.

Currently, the Junior S.T.A.R. Academy takes place at Lehigh University for about six specified Saturdays between November and April. Each Saturday session includes tutoring, computer skills, a math or communication skills session, and a hands on session conducted by Lehigh faculty. Additionally, Junior S.T.A.R. Academy conducts a yearly career day in March. Although the Junior S.T.A.R. program targets 4th and 5th grade students, the goals and objectives of this program are the same as the regular S.T.A.R. program.

The day to day planning, monitoring and evaluation of the Junior S.T.A.R. Academy is the responsibility of the Junior S.T.A.R. Academy Committee. Parental/guardian involvement in the Junior S.T.A.R. Academy continues to be strongly encouraged.
