JOHN E. FREUND III, ESQ., a founding member of King Spry and vice chairman of the firm’s Executive Committee, is one of Pennsylvania’s most experienced practitioners in education, employment, civil rights, and issues that affect local government and their insurers. He serves as chairman of the Education Law and Employment Law Practice Groups and is a member of the Tax Exempt Finance, Litigation, and Insurance Practice Groups.

Mr. Freund’s background and experience in education and matters affecting children are substantial. He regularly represents public schools, private schools, and colleges on a wide range of legal concerns in state and federal courts, administrative agencies and special education due process matters. He is a past president of the Pennsylvania School Solicitors Association; a past president of the Saucon Valley School Board; served on the Pennsylvania’s Attorney General’s Task Force on School Violence; was a Pennsylvania Supreme Court-appointed Juvenile Master for Lehigh County; former commissioner of the Middle States Commission on Elementary Schools; and a member of the Executive Committee of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association.

 

Mr. Freund serves as counsel to various regional and national educational organizations, including the Council on International and TransRegional Accreditation; the National Study of School Evaluation; and the SAC’s Council on Accreditation and School Improvement; and the Pennsylvania Association of Elementary and Secondary School Principals.

 

Mr. Freund is a long-time member of the Board of Directors of Lehigh Mutual Insurance Company and serves as the company’s corporate Secretary and General Counsel. He is a long-standing member of the Pennsylvania Association of Mutual Insurance Companies.

 

Mr. Freund lectures and writes frequently on education, public entity, employment and insurance law topics. Mr. Freund is the in-house editor of the firm newsletter “The Freundian Slip,” which employs humor and “lite” satire to educate professionals on current legal issues affecting public entities.

 

Mr. Freund graduated cum laude from Princeton University and received his Juris Doctorate from Villanova University, where he was a member of the Law Review and winner of the Reimel Moot Court Finalist Award.

 

Mr. Freund is a member of the bars of the U.S. Supreme Court, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Districts for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Pennsylvania.
