ROTC Clubs

While most cadets are involved in several clubs and organizations on their campus, Lehigh Army ROTC offers several special clubs available to those enrolled in the program. Participation is optional and all are completely student run and organized.

Ranger Challenge Team

                                      

Often described as the "varsity sport" of ROTC, the annual Ranger Challenge is a high-intensity, inter-school competition that includes testing military skills such as rifle assembly and dis-assembly, constructing a rope bridge, land navigation, a 10 kilometer road march with full equipment, and a myriad of other physical and team-oriented events.

Nineteen schools send teams comprised of some of their best cadets to vie for the Commander's Trophy at Fort Indiantown Gap, PA every Fall. Over the past 18 years, the Lehigh University Ranger Challenge Team has placed 3rd or better - most recently winning the Grand Championship in 2006 and 2008.

Participation on the team is open to male and female cadets. The training is fast-paced and rigorous, but provides a tremendous opportunity for personal growth, leadership development and camaraderie.

Scabbard & Blade Society

Community leadership is important to cadets in Army ROTC, and the Scabbard & Blade Society comprises the volunteer community service arm of the Department of Military Science & Leadership.

Past activities have included "haunting" the ROTC House for Southside Bethlehem children on Halloween, making Valentine's Day cards for local senior citizens, and making exam study packages to assist Lehigh students.

Society of American Military Engineers

The mission of SAME is to promote and facilitate engineering support for national security by developing and enhancing relationships and competencies among uniformed services, public and private sector engineers, and related professionals.

Membership in the club is open to non-engineering students and members are also eligible for additional academic scholarships each year.

Color Guard

As a member of the Color Guard, you become a visible spokesperson for Army ROTC. The Color Guard performs formal drill and ceremony activities as part of University and community events. Members of the Color Guard present the United States flag before all home football games along with other traditional presentations.

The Color Guard is optional to join and student run by an elected Color Sergeant, who is typically a junior.
