CHOICE

Important Considerations
Choice can be implemented with an individual student or with an entire class. While procedures are similar when using it in an individual or group format, there are some things to consider when using choice for a group.

Consider how the choice will be made. Students may each choose separately, a vote could be taken, or individual students may take turns choosing for the group.

However the choice is decided, it is important to implement the choice as soon as possible after the vote is made.

If using a voting procedure, remember to take into account the reactions of students in the minority, whose choice was not utilized. These students may react negatively to the fact that their choice was not used. One way to avoid this problem is to incorporate their choices into future lessons.
