Membership Application and Agreement


Center for Optical Technologies [COT] Mission Statement:

To generate advances in the science and application of optical technologies, and to forge partnerships that drive growth and diversity in the industry.


Center Objectives:

· To discover and disseminate findings through research, collaboration, and teaching that advance the science of optics and optoelectronics.
· To build world-class research facilities, expand faculty, and develop teaming relationships to enable substantial and sustainable advances in optical technologies.
· To help industry move commercially viable science and technology to the marketplace through innovative university-industry-government partnerships.
· To focus on the growth of the optical industry in the region, as well as the state and nation.
· To educate future leaders of industry and academe with the knowledge and vision to move innovative optical technologies and applications from concept to reality.


Membership Benefits:

1. COT and CAMN [Center for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology] equipment and facilities usage at reduced or preferred-user rates.
2. Reduced indirect cost rates for company-specific joint research programs.
3. Access to faculty, students and staff, including opportunities to discuss ongoing Center research activities and the development of the Center’s future research plans.
4. Workshops and seminars with content mutually agreed by the Member(s) and the Center.
5. Semi-annual industry days for Members held at the Center. These may include oral presentations of recent research results of the Center or its Members.

Note: The financial benefit of reduced rates for equipment and facilities usage is a sustainable membership benefit, while the accrued financial benefit of reduced indirect costs on joint research is capped each year at the cost of the membership fee.

Membership Obligations:

The annual membership fee is currently $10,000 for companies with less than 500 employees and $25,000 for companies with 500 or more employees. *All or a portion of the annual membership fee may be met through a negotiated donation or transaction for critical equipment needs of the COT.

The term of membership is typically one year which is automatically renewable at the end of each term. The membership fee may increase in 2004 and beyond as the Center becomes more established and presents a greater value to the industry. The Member has the option to enter into a multi-year agreement to lock in the current fee.
