Directions to Center for Optical Technologies at Lehigh University

From Route 22

  • Take the Route 378 exit in Bethlehem.  Route 378 heads south only.
  • Follow Route 378 south for 3.6 miles.
  • As you cross the bridge over the Lehigh River get in the left-hand lane, and then bear left just on the other side of the bridge onto Third Street.
  • On Third Street get into the right lane, and at the traffic light at Brodhead Avenue turn right.  (Perkins Restaurant is on your left.)
  • Go two blocks to Morton Street, where you turn left.
  • After two blocks the entrance to the Parking Deck is on the right, where visitors can park for 50¢ per hour, or $1.00 for the remainder of the day after 4:00PM.
  • Otherwise continue straight for another block you will see parking meters along both sides of Morton Street.  The meters are 4 hour meters at 50 cents an hour.
  • On the Detailed Parking Map you will also see a parking lot in front of Whitaker/Sinclair Lab marked “staff parking only”.  Visitors may park there only if they receive a "temporary parking hang tag" from our office.  Parking Services does patrol this lot and does give out parking tickets to those in violation.

From Interstate 78 (from East or West)

  • Take exit 67 for Route 412, marked Hellertown/Bethlehem Exit.
  • Turn north on Route 412 (a right turn at the traffic light at the end of the exit ramp in both cases; those traveling eastbound on 78 will pass back under 78 and go through the traffic light at the westbound exit ramp).
  • After one traffic light and 0.8 miles, Route 412 bends sharply to the left.  You must be in the left lane here, continuing on Route 412 as indicated by the sign.  You will pass through a second and third traffic light, and after 1.5 miles the fourth light is at a fork where you must go straight through the intersection, not taking Daly Road which bends off to the right as the main road (and is actually the continuation of 412).  By going straight you are then on 4th Street.
  • Continue on 4th Street up over and then down the hill through 5 traffic lights until you get to 6th light at Webster Street where you will turn left.  Webster is a total of 2.8 miles from Route 78.  Polk and Taylor precede Webster, while Adams, New, and Vine are after Webster.
  • You can park at the meters along Webster Street, but you are more likely to find metered parking by turning right immediately onto Morton Street.  These meters are 50 cents per hour.
  • Another alternative is the Parking Deck, which is reached by turning right off Webster onto Morton Street, going two blocks and turning left into the Deck entrance.  Visitors may park in the Parking Deck for 50¢ per hour, or $1.00 for the remainder of the day after 4:00PM.

From Philadelphia and South

  • Take the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Route 476) to Exit 32 (Quakertown)
  • Turn left onto Route 663 to Quakertown.  Follow for 3.5 miles.
  • Turn left onto Route 309 north.  Follow 309 north to Route 378.
  • Turn right onto 378 north to Bethlehem.  Follow 378 over South Mountain.
  • Halfway down the far side of the mountain, at the 2nd set of blinking yellow lights, turn right onto Summit Street.  At the end of Summit Street, turn left onto Brodhead Avenue.
  • Go two blocks and turn right onto Packer Avenue.  Follow Packer Avenue for 3 blocks.  You will come to Webster Street on your left.
  • At the corner of Webster St. and Packer Ave. turn left onto Webster Street.
  • You can park at the meters along Webster Street, but you are more likely to find metered parking by turning left onto Morton Street after the parking lot.  These meters are 50 cents per hour.
