Dr Svetlana Tatic-Lucic: Bio-MEMS developed at Lehigh MEMS Processing Facility

Developed a theoretical model to predict biomechanical behaviors of a biological cell under compression.
Applied analytical and numerical electromechanical analysis to microactuators and microsensors comprising the BioMEMS devices.
Designed and executed fabrication for the polymer-based BioMEMS devices.
Characterized the BioMEMS actuator array (PVETAA) in air, DI-water and cell media by applying both DC and AC voltages.
Defined methodology for measuring the mechanical properties of a biological cell, and performed the measurement.
For the first time, demonstrated the compression of a biological cell (NIH3T3 fibroblast) up to 25% strain in cell media using the BioMEMS device.
