How to install and use PDF995 to create PDF documents

Lehigh has a site license for Adobe Acrobat Writer, but it's only available when connected on-campus to the Lehigh network.  PDF995 is a suitable, free alternative that's ideal for users who want to create PDFs whether they're connected to the network or not.

Installing PDF995

In order to create PDF files, you 'll need to download both the Pdf995 Printer Driver and Free Converter from http://www.pdf995.com/download.html.

Look for this download box at the top of the page. Click each Download link and save both files to your desktop.

Go to the desktop.  Double-click on the file pdf995s and click Run to install it.   When you see this prompt, click No.

Double-click on the file ps2pdf995 and click Run to install it.  When prompted at the User Configuration screen, click Accept.

The Pdf995 instruction page will be displayed when the installation process is complete. The process creates a new printer called "PDF995."

Creating PDF Documents

• Display the file you want to make into a PDF (examples: MS-Word, HTML, MS-Powerpoint files).
• Click File > Print.
• Select "PDF995" as your printer.
• Click Print as though you were printing normally.
• You'll receive a prompt to save your PDF document. Select a location, type in a file name and click Save.
• Each time you create a PDF, another browser window will open, redirecting you to an advertisement on the PDF995 homepage.  You do not need to purchase Pdf995 in order to use it; however, purchasing Pdf995 will make the advertising feature go away.
• Adobe Reader will automatically open to your new PDF.
