Updates to End Soon for Windows XP and Office 2003

What's happening:

As of April 2014, Microsoft will no longer support or offer security update patches for Windows XP and Office 2003 programs (Word 2003, Excel 2003, Access 2003, etc.). The latest version of Windows XP is Service Pack 3 (support has already ended for Service Packs 1 and 2). Support for Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is also ending (the latest version of Vista is Service Pack 2; note that Lehigh did not typically deploy and does not support Vista for LU computers). You can read more about this on the Microsoft Announcement page and this Windows Support page.

Why this matters:

Continuing to use Microsoft Windows XP or Office 2003 programs (Word 2003, Excel 2003, Access 2003, etc.) after April 2014 will leave your computer and the entire University community exposed to viruses and other malicious software that can result in lost, corrupted or compromised data. Library & Technology Services will no longer support computers using Microsoft Windows XP or Office 2003 programs (Word 2003, Excel 2003, Access 2003, etc.) after April, 2014.

What you should do:

First, identify any computers running Windows XP or Office 2003 programs.

Second, identify any software, equipment, or business processes that rely on these soon-to-be unsupported Microsoft products.

Then, work with your supervisor and LTS Computing Consultant to identify alternative solutions.

Please contact the LTS Help Desk (610-758-HELP) or your computing consultant with any questions or concerns you may have about this situation.
