FAQ for Faculty affected by the closing of Linderman Library

What has been done to make heavily used materials from Linderman available for students and faculty during the 18 months the building is closed to the public?

The library has moved some of the Linderman materials to a "mini-Linderman" collection in Fairchild Library. This collection is based on lists faculty submitted to the librarians prior to the closing of Linderman as well as heavily circulated materials from the Linderman collection. We have also placed selected Linderman reference books in the FM Library reference area. All Linderman current periodicals and newspapers have moved to FM library and can be found in the Current Periodicals area.

In addition, the portion of the Linderman humanities collection in literature, art and music has been sent to the Library Materials Center (LMC) on Mountaintop campus where they can be requested using our online form or browsed by contacting the LMC Staff. See our requesting guide. Dewy ranges 100 up to 169, 700's and 800's comprise this collection transferred to the LMC. Selected music books are being housed temporarily in the Music Library in Zoellner Arts Center.

Special Collections materials which are being stored in remote storage are retrievable by the Special Collections, temporarily housed in Fairchild Martindale 625, located on the north side of the 3rd floor of the Mart Wing. For help, contact Phil Metzger, (pam5, 85185) or Ilhan Citak (ilc4, 84506).

How can I have additional materials added to the mini-Linderman collection if I have identified important books that my students need ready access to?

Faculty members can still send their supplemental course reading lists to Roseann Bowerman (rb04) or Kathe Morrow (kem6) We will then have staff retrieve the books from our remote storage sites for inclusion in the mini-Linderman area in Fairchild library.

We have also developed an online form you can use to easily tell us about other materials you think should be in the mini-Linderman.

What arrangements exist that will allow me to visit and/or borrow materials directly from other academic libraries while Linderman is closed?

We have a number of agreements with other libraries that will allow you to visit institutions and borrow directly from their libraries. Some of these arrangements will also apply to your students. We have prepared a document called "Onsite Faculty and Student Borrowing at other Institutions" which outlines these relationships.

How will the JSTOR collection of electronic periodical backfiles help me while Linderman is closed ?

JSTOR will be a useful tool for accessing complete online backruns of many core humanities journals. Our document" JSTOR Holdings and the Linderman closing" will give you more information.
