The Zinc Institute was founded in 1919, chartered in New York state and maintained
an office in New York City. Its stated purpose was; 1. to obtain, analyze and
disseminate information and advice as to the uses and characteristaics of zinc
and zinc products; 2. to support and conduct studies and research to uses and
posssible uses of zinc and zinc products; 3. to obtain, analyze and disseminate
statistical information relating to production, marketing and use of zinc and
zinc products; and 4. to do all things necessary and incidental to the foregoing
purposes. Because of declining member- ships, perceived changes of needs, and
reduced income the Board of Directors voted to close the New York office, and
reduce staff at a meeting in May 1987. (no further information is available
