  • New Blackboard Tool for Collaborative Learning
Interested in online collaborative learning? We now have a new Blackboard tool, "Teams LX", that makes it easy for groups of students to create and jointly edit shared documents and websites within a Blackboard course. This is the first tool that we have found that actually allows students to add content to a course that is immediately available to everyone enrolled in the course. Each edit to a page is logged and is available for viewing for both the Instructor and team members. Comments about the pages can be added by team members, the Instructor, and even members of the course who are not on the team. Teams LX provides not only an online collaborative environment for a specific group of students, but also, optionally, provides an environment for the entire class to reflect and comment on the process.
While the end result of a "Teams" project will be a final collaborative web page (or site), the built-in evaluation tool also provides the Instructor with information about individual contributions, as well as views of all the prior versions of the site. This multi-dimensional approach to assessment and evaluation of collaborative projects really provides unique and invaluable insights into the collaborative process.
Teams LX is available now on our Blackboard system. Instructors can create and assign collaborative projects for their students by simply adding a "Teams Group Site" to any content area of a course. Go to the edit content area page either through the Control Panel, or toggle there from the course content page, by clicking on "EDIT VIEW" in the upper right portion of the page. Choose "Create Teams Groups Site" from the pull-down menu on the add content tool bar, then "GO". This will create a blank "home" page for the team.
