Academic
Index - Also known as INFOTRAC, Expanded Academic ASAP Index is a
multidisciplinary database. From the opening screen, choose Expanded
Academic ASAP. It provides indexing and abstracting for more than 1896
scholarly and general interest journals about one half of which include
full text or full image copies. Use to find information on astronomy,
religion, law, history, psychology, humanities, current events,
political science, sociology, communications and the general sciences.
CIAO
- Columbia International Affairs Online - comprehensive source for
theory and research in international affairs. It publishes a wide range
of scholarship from 1991 onward that includes working papers from
university research institutes, occasional papers series from NGOs,
foundation-funded research projects, proceedings from conferences,
books, journals and policy briefs.
PAIS
- Public Affairs Information Service - PAIS covers global public
policy and social issues. Includes periodicals, books, hearings,
reports, gray literature, government publications, Internet resources,
and other publications published in over 120 countries.
Research
Library by Proquest - The Research Library indexes, abstracts and
provides selective full-text for a broad spectrum of magazines,
journals and newspapers.
Web
of Science - Social Sciences Citation Index - Web of Science
includes the Science Citation Expanded®, Social Sciences Citation
Index®, and Arts & Humanities Citation Index. The databases
search "current and retrospective multidisciplinary information from
approximately 8,500 of the most prestigious, high impact research
journals in the world." Cited reference searching allows users to
"navigate forward, backward, and through the literature, searching all
disciplines and time spans to uncover all the information relevant to
their research."
News sources:
Factiva
- Factiva is a collection of worldwide business information from nearly
8,000 sources from 118 countries in 22 languages. Factiva has "same-day
and archival coverage of The Wall Street Journal, New York Times,
Washington Post, The Globe and Mail, Financial Times, Handelsblatt, Les
Echos, South China Morning Post, Australian Financial Review, Sydney
Morning Herald, Straits Times, Yomiuri Shimbun, and local newspapers"
from around the globe. Breaking news is available from 120 continuously
updated newswires. Factiva requires the browser Microsoft's Internet
Explorer (IE) 5.01 or higher.
Lexis/Nexis
Academic -Provides full text from national, regional and
international newspapers, business and general news magazines, media
transcripts, public opinion polls and surveys. Primarily English
language but some coverage of foreign language news is also included.
Hundreds of sources are included and the dates of coverage will vary
for each title. One can use the “Sources” feature to identify
publications included and to limit searches to a specific title.
Websites and Portals:
EUROPA
- provides news and activities by sectors of EU activity (agriculture,
competition, etc.). There is an extensive section of information on
Enlargement of the EU. Also links to texts of or citations to the
treaties, legislation in force, legislation in preparation, recent
case law, the Directorates-General and EU agencies, and other
sources of information. There are links to institutions websites,
to official documents, EUR-Lex, Bulletin of the European Union
(monthly), General Report (annual), European Council,
Presidency Conclusions.
New
York University Law School's guide to European Union, European
Commission - This excellent web portal provides an extensive review
of information resources, websites and guidance on researching the
European Union. It provides guides to EU sources and links to EU
databases. Be sure to check out the link to "Accessing European Union
Information" created by the Office of Press and Public Affairs of the
Delegation of the European Commission in Washington, DC.
Single Source Europe
- "SINGLE SOURCE EUROPE (SSE) is a single portal on the world-wide web
for Central and East European think tanks and research institutes
(TT/RI) focusing on EU affairs and publishing in English. SSE will
simplify access to the variety of valuable electronic and printed
publications produced by several hundred TT/RIs from Central and
Eastern Europe."
