Table of Contents

Books
There are two resources that will assist in locating items in the Lehigh University libraries and in other libraries. They are:
  1. ASA, Library's Online Catalog. This lists all the items in the library and their location. This resource is available via the Network Server and the WWW.
  2. WorldCat. This is a catalog that lists over 44 million items including books, journals, Audio-Visual, and software. REMEMBER: Over 25 thousand libraries are involved with this resource. These resources may be obtained via Lehigh's Interlibrary Loan Service.

The following descriptors (a.k.a. subject terms, subject headings) can be used to locate books in either database. A reminder that journal articles are NOT indexed in ASA or WorldCat. They are:

  1. Business logistics.
  2. Customer services-Management
  3. Delivery of goods-Management
  4. Industrial procurement
  5. Marketing channels-Management
  6. Materials management
  7. Materials purchasing
  8. Physical distribution of goods.
  9. Production management.
  10. Production planning.
  11. Wholesale trade

Journal Indexes and Other Resources
To locate articles on the topic(s), use the indexes to locate articles relating to your topic. To locate theses databases, click on this URL, http://databases.lib.lehigh.edu/finder/. They are:
  1. ABI-Inform Dateline. Indexes resources with local and regional business news coverage of companies, business. and the economy.
  2. ABI-Inform Global . Indexes over 1400 journals in management and business. Coverage is from 1987 for most journals. About 45% of the articles are available in full text.
  3. ABI-Inform Trade & Industry. Indexes resources with a trade or industry focus.
  4. Academic Index (Expanded) Covers over 1400 journal going back to 1980. Some articles are available in full text.
  5. Applied Science and Technology Abstracts (a.k.a. ASTA) Covers articles in the engineering, technology and business fields.
  6. Associations Unlimited. This is also available in print and its title is Encyclopedia of Associations. Its call number is 061.3/G152e/FM-1-R-Ref.
  7. Engineering Index (Compendex) Good resource for engineering articles. Also covers conferences and some technical reports.
  8. Econlit. A good index for the research journals that cover company information from a research perspective.
  9. Factiva. Covers over 12,000 publications (full text) back to early 1980's.
  10. Lexis Nexis Academic. Provides full text of journals, newspapers, and wire services relating to business information. It also has full text legal materials such court decisions, legislation and regulations. The service is available via the Web.
  11. MathSciNet. Covers the mathematical journal literature.
  12. Metadex Covers the materials science including abstracts of journals, conferences, and some technical reports.
  13. Research Library. Covers over 1800 journals in a variety of subject areas with some available in full text.

Electronic Journals
Another source of full text journal articles is the electronic journal (a.k.a. e-journal). We have access to many e-journal collections through a variety of sources. To access them, click on this URL: http://www.lehigh.edu/library/ejournals/. The following sources have economic, finance and management journals which will help with your research. They are:

  1. Emerald Library. This resource is heavily weighted in the management area. It is a good source for supply chain management information. (NOTE: Search Engine for Emerald Library is not a good one.)
  2. JSTOR. This is a good source for locating items concerning logistics and management of the items over a period of time. (NOTE: this has a four to five year delay in mounting the articles.).
  3. Wiley Interscience. This has a number of economic and management journals that can be useful in locating material on your topic.

Associations
These are good resources for information logistic matters. The type of information can include statistics, information about logistics, contacts, and links to other resources. The following are examples of associations that can help you in your research. They were found in Associations Unlimited that is listed on the Library Databases page. They are:
  1. American Production and Inventory Control Society. Its URL is http://www.apics.org/. (A.K.A. APICS-The Educational Society for Resource Management).**
  2. Distribution Business Management Association (DBMA). This organization is located in Lancaster, PA. Phone: (717) 295-0033. Its email is dbminfo@dbm-assoc.com.
  3. Institute for Supply Management.  [Formerly National Association of Purchasing Management (NAPM)]. URL is http://www.napm.org.*
  4. Procurement and Supply Chain Benchmarking Association (PASBA) URL is http://www.pasba.com.
  5. Supply Chain Council. Its URL is http://www.supply-chain.org.**

World Wide Web
Using a search engine, e.g., Google, you will find information that may be useful.  Examples are government, associations, and companies.   They provide facts, figures, and reports that may be important to your research.  There are multi-search engines that makes searching the Web more efficient.  Dogpile.com is an example of these multi-search engines.  Its URL is http://www.dogpile.com.  Remember: anyone can put up a web page with information. Is the information on the web page reliable? They are:

  8. ITtoolbox Supply Chain. This site provides information, books, software, links and much more on the supply chain management and related issues. Its URL is http://supplychain.ittoolbox.com/.

Company Information
If you need company information, please refer to MBA 402 guide's company and stock information section. It lists resources having qualitative and quantitative information on companies and industries.

Proxy Server
Proxy is handled by using the Off Campus button ( ) on the Databases page. When you click on the button, a ID/PW box appears. Type in your AFS ID/PW, click ok, and then you can search the selected database.
LiveRef
If you need assistance with research for a project , you may click on  the LiveRef icon. There, you will have a real time chat with a Lehigh librarian. Online Lehigh librarian hours for Spring 2007 (Starting January 15th) are: Monday-Thursday 8 am to 8 pm, and Friday 8 am to 5 pm.
