These resources will assist you in locating important information on your companies. This ensures that you have the best information for your SWOT analysis.
Quantitative(Marketing)
  1. Company Web Pages. These are excellent sources of marketing information. Remember: The companies that issue the information maintain the content on these pages.
  2. Factiva. The Company Quick Search has the financial information on a company and products.
  3. Investext. It has analyst reports covering more than 11,000 U.S. and international companies and 53 industries. These reports come from over 500 Wall Street and international brokerage firms publicly held companies. Includes most of the major food companies and their competitors.
  4. Standard and Poor's Market Insight. This includes a variety of information for companies, industries, and countries. Company information includes financial, ratios and stock reports.

Qualitative (Non-Journal literature)
  1. Investext. Reports from over 500 stock brokerage and investment banks' analysts on publicly held companies. Includes most of the major food companies and their competitors.
  2. Journal Indexes. See the Journal Index section for more resources.
  3. Standard & Poor's Market Insight. This resource has excellent analysis of the 53 industries. In many cases, major companies are mentioned in the analysis.

Journal Indexes and Full Text Electronic Journals
Locating articles with quantitative and qualitative information on companies and industries may be found using these indexes. Some indexes have full text articles.  Its URL is http://databases.lib.lehigh.edu/finder/.  They are:
  1. ABI-Inform Dateline. Indexes resources with local and regional business news coverage of companies, business. and the economy.
  2. ABI-Inform Global.  Indexes over 1400 journals in management and business.  Coverage is from 1987 for many journals.  About 45% of the articles are available in full text.
  3. ABI-Inform Trade & Industry. Indexes resources with a trade or industry focus.
  4. Academic Index, Expanded.  Covers over 1400 journal going back to 1980.  Some articles are available in full text.
  5. Emerald Library. This resource is heavily weighted in the management area.
  6. Factiva.  Covers over 8000 publications (full text) back to early 1980's.
  7. Lexis Nexis Academic.  This database has its Business section with divisions including Industry, Company Financial and Business News.  This includes full text of journals, newspapers, and wire services relating to business world.  It also has full text legal materials such court decisions, legislation and regulations.
  8. PsycInfo. A good source for journal articles on consumer and marketing behavior.
  9. Research Library . Covers over 1800 journals in a variety of subject areas with some available in full text.
  10. Sociological Abstracts. This covers research in demographics, social psychology and community development.

Government and Other Statistics
A variety of statistics are available from numerous sources. These include government, associations and private organizations.
  1. Bureau of Economic Analysis. Its URL is http://www.bea.gov/ .
  2. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Its URL is http://www.bls.gov/ .
  3. Federal Statistics site. Its URL is http://www.fedstats.gov/ .
  4. Statistical Abstract of the United States. (317.3/U58s/FM-1-Ref). Available in print and on the Web. An excellent source for locating statistics on United States.
  5. U.S. Census Bureau. Its URL is http://www.census.gov/ .

These resources provide specific information on the 18-30 age group:

  1. Digest of Education Statistics, 2003. An excellent source for educational statistics.
  2. Getting Ready to Pay for College: What Students and Their Parents Know About the Cost of College Tuition and What They Are Doing to Find Out. This publication has excellent statistics on the make up of who goes to college. Statistics include ethnicity, economic status, income, and family background.
  3. Waiting to Attend College: Undergraduates Who Delay Their Postsecondary Enrollment. Good information on who does and does not go to college.

These resources can be useful in locating information, e.g., trademarks:
  1. United States Patent and Trademark Office.This provides information on patents, patent applications, and trademarks.
  2. Trademarks(USPTO). The trademark section provides information on trademarks and trademark applications.
  3. Finding and Obtaining PATENTS. This excellent guide provides information on the patents and trademarks.
