Databases

The following are library databases relevant to research in biology. Each of these is very wide-ranging in terms of topic coverage. So if you need to do a thorough search, try more than one.

• Basic Biosis Subset of major biology database.
• Ecology Abstracts Details about coverage here.
• Pubmed Major database for medical research. Check this for biological topics.
• PsycInfo. Check for biology topics that have a psychological dimension. See here for details about use.
• SciFinder Scholar. Produced by Chemical Abstracts Service but look for interdisciplinary coverage relating to biology: "complete coverage of chemistry and the life sciences including biochemistry, biology, pharmacology, medicine, and related disciplines". Includes Medline as well as chemistry abstracting and indexing.
• Web of Science. See information here and here. Latter links to current tutorials.

Other Resources:

• Annual Reviews:  go here under "A" to see "Annual Review of...." (for example, Annual review of neuroscience and
  Annual review of microbiology). These provide reviews of topics. Great place to look for articles giving a bird's-eye view of the field and for generating bibliography.
• Agricola (look for agriculture, vet science-related literature).

• Useful as a way to store citations (and notes about them) into a personal library
• Details about EndNote are here.
• Watch for EndNote Web later this year.
