Table of Contents

Books
There are two resources that will assist in locating items in the Lehigh University libraries and in other libraries. They are:
    1. ASA, Library's Online Catalog. This lists all the items in the library and their location. This resource is available on the WWW.
    2. WorldCat. This is a catalog that lists over 44 million items including books, journals, Audio-Visual, and software. REMEMBER: Over 25 thousand libraries are involved with this resource. These resources may be obtained via Lehigh’s Interlibrary Loan Service.
Reminder: journal articles are NOT indexed in ASA or WorldCat.


Journal Indexes
To locate articles on the topic(s), use the indexes to locate articles relating to your topic. To access the Web version, click on Lehigh Home page, at the top right Libraries, then Electronic Resources and then Databases (or click on its URL: http://www.lehigh.edu/~inref/databases/index.html). They are:
    1. ABI-Inform. Indexes over 1400 journals in management and business. Coverage is from 1987 for most journals. About 45% of the articles are available in full text.
    2. Anthropological Index. This is a good source for consumer behavior information. NOTE: Be sure to use variant spellings of search terms, i.e. behavior or behaviour. (No full text articles)
    3. Business and Company Resource Center. Has trade journal articles on companies and industries.
    4. Dow Jones Interactive. Its Publications Library is available via Dow Jones Interactive on the Web. Covers over 6000 publications (full text) back to early 1980's.
    5. Econlit. A good index for the research journals that covers consumer behavior. (No full text articles)
    6. InfoTrac (a.k.a. Expanded Academic Index). Covers over 1400 journal going back to 1980. Some articles are available in full text.
    7. Lexis Nexis Universe. Provides full text of journals, newspapers, and wire services relating to consumer information. It also has full text legal materials such court decisions, legislation and regulations.
    8. Periodical Abstracts. Covers over 1800 journals and newspapers. Some journal articles are available in full text.
    9. PsychInfo. A good source for articles relating to psychology of consumer behavior. (No full text articles)
    10. Sociological Abstracts. A good source for articles concerning the sociology of consumer behavior, ex.(No full text articles).

Electronic Journals
Another source of full text journal articles is the electronic journal (a.k.a. e-journal). We have access to many e-journal collections through a variety of sources. To access them, click on this URL: http://www.lehigh.edu/library/ejournals/. The following sources have economic, finance and management journals that will help with your research. They are:
    1. Emerald Library. Although this resource is heavily weighted in the management area, it is a good source for consumer behavior information. (NOTE: Search Engine for Emerald Library is not a good one.)
    2. JSTOR. This is a good source for locating articles concerning consumer behavior over a period of time. (NOTE: this has a four to five year delay in mounting the articles.).
    3. Wiley Interscience. This has a number of marketing and management journals that can be useful in locating material on your topic.

Statistical Indexes
These items list sources where statistics can be located. They are:
    1. American Statistics Index. 310.016/C749a/Ref. Covers statistics printed by the Federal Government.
    2. Statistical Reference Index. 317.3016/S797/Ref. Covers statistics printed by non-Federal Government agencies, i.e., associations, commercial publishers, states, etc. Available on fiche since 1980 at Fairchild Library.
    3. Statistical Universe. This is an index of statistics that were previously published in the print indexes that are listed above. Also this is compilation of statistics from a variety of sources some of which are available in print and/or on the fiche at Fairchild Library. NOTE: Web version does not have all of the statistics that are available in print. Its URL is http://www.lexis-nexis.com/statuniv.

General Statistical Resources
The listed resources will give statistics on industries, general economy and population that are produced by the Federal Government. Many of the same statistics are available on the Web. These are:
    1. Business statistics of the United States. 338.09/B976a/FM-1-Ref. Biennial publication has historical statistics that originally appeared in the Survey of Current Business as current. This publication has the statistics from 1947 to with in a year of its publication date.
    2. Statistical Abstract of the United States. 317.2/U58s/FM-1-RRef. Latest edition is in Ready Reference with earlier editions in the stacks. The URL for the Web edition is http://www.census.gov/statab/www/.
    3. STAT-USA. See World Wide Web for a description.
    4. Survey of current business. C56.109: /FM-2-DOC. The URLs for the Web versions are http://www.bea.doc.gov/bea/pubs.htm or http://asa.lib.lehigh.edu/cgi-bin/pubid?Pub=28352. Also, this is available on STAT-USA.
These are additional sites for statistics on the economy that are produced by the Federal Government. They are:
    1. Bureau of Economic Analysis. Its URL is http://www.bea.doc.gov/.
    2. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Its URL is http://www.bls.gov/.
    3. Federal Statistics site. Its URL is http://www.fedstats.gov/.
    4. Securities and Exchange Commission. Its URL is http://www.sec.gov/.
    5. U.S. Census Bureau. Its URL is http://www.census.gov/.

Associations
These are good resources for information consumer behavior matters. The type of information can include statistics, industry information, consumer behavior and links to other resources. Use Associations Unlimited that is found on the Library Databases page.


World Wide Web
Using a search engine, i.e., AltaVista, Infoseek, etc., you will find information that may be useful. There are (but not limited to) government, associations, companies and individuals that have home pages. They provide facts, figures, and reports that may be important to your research. When searching on the Web, be sure to use the multi-search engines that search other search engines. These will make searching the Web more efficient. Dogpile.com (http://www.dogpile.com/) is an example of these multi-search engines. It will search AltaVista, Magellan, etc., to locate needed resources. Remember: anyone can put up web page with information. Is the information on the web page reliable? A good source on the Web is:
    1. The Marketing Virtual Library. Its URL is http://www.knowthis.com/. Areas covered include but not limited to advertising, consumer issues, legal information, e-commerce, public relations and market research. It is a comprehensive and current resource with annotated guide to marketing resources.
    2. eBrain Market Research. This is a service of the Consumer Electronics Association. Its URL is http://www.ebrain.org/.


Company and Other Information
For company and industry financial information, please refer to Finance 335 guide. It lists resources having qualitative and quantitative information on companies, industries and general economic information. Its URL is
