ELDIS: THE GATEWAY TO DEVELOPMENT INFORMATION
Eldis is funded by the Danish development agency Danida, and hosted by the Institute of
Development Studies, Sussex, England. Eldis is a gateway to online information on
development in countries of the South. Coverage includes social, economic, political
and environmental issues.
 
IMF STAFF COUNTRY REPORTS IN FULL TEXT

The International Monetary Fund has begun to make selected staff country reports available in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format only.  The reports are in-depth studies that discuss such issues as recent economic developments and policies, poverty, banking, etc.

NATIONAL TRADE DATA BANK (FROM STAT-USA)

NTDB, created by the U.S. Department of Commerce, provides access to a variety of U.S. produced reports on foreign countries, their economic conditions, commercial and labor policies, and market opportunities in various sectors. Country Commercial Guides give an overview of the economic trends and political environment as they effect trade.

UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

This web site provides access to the Human Development Reports from 1990- 1999 (click on the small STATISTICS link at the bottom of the Homepage), texts of some of the Human Development Report Office Occasional papers, and access to reports by UNDP Regional Bureaus. Full texts of National Human Development reports are slowly being added. UNITED STATES AGENCY FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (USAID)

The web page produced by USAID provides information on its programs throughout the world. You can find texts of useful reports and program evaluation publications. An efficient entry point is to click on the Regions and Countries choice.

WORLD BANK

The World Bank Group's web site provides access to full texts and summaries of a number of it's publications... use the Regions and Countries link to get country overviews and access to available texts and summaries of some of the Program Information Documents.  For more extensive information, searching the World Development Sources database, which requires a special "plug-in" product allow you to view the full text of World Bank Economic and Sector Reports and other World Bank publication series. Caution: this plug-in viewer has its quirks and is not particularly comfortable reading. Unfortunately this viewer only allows cumbersome page by page printing.. Overall the WBG page makes available a thorough overview of its activities in countries and world regions.
