Books
There are two resources that will assist in locating items in the Lehigh University libraries and in other libraries.  They are:
  1. ASA, The Library's Online Catalog.  This lists all the items in the library and their locations. 
  2. WorldCat.  This is a catalog that lists over 55 million items including books, journals, audio-visual, CD-ROMs and software.  These resources may be obtained via Lehigh's Interlibrary Loan.

Remember: Use ASA to locate books, journals, A-V materials, and CD-ROMs.  Journal articles are NOT indexed in ASA


Company and Industry Information
These resources can be used to locate information on industries.  They are:
  1. Associations Unlimited.  Good for finding associations related to the industry and company.
  2. Factiva.  It has quantitative and qualitative material on companies and industries.
  3. Standard and Poor's Market Insight. This is a compendium of financial information on companies and industries. It includes brief information profiles on countries and investment trends. Its Industry Surveys is part of the service.

Journal Indexes and Other Resources
Locating articles with quantitative and qualitative information on companies and industries may be found using these indexes.  Some indexes have full text articles. Its URL is http://databases.lib.lehigh.edu/finder/.  They are:
  1. ABI-Inform Dateline. Indexes resources with local and regional business news coverage of companies, business and the economy.
  2. ABI-Inform Global .  Indexes over 1400 journals in management and business.  Coverage is from 1987 for many journals.  About 45% of the articles are available in full text.
  3. ABI-Inform Trade & Industry. Indexes resources with a trade or industry focus
  4. Academic Index (Expanded).Covers many subject areas including information technology. Many articles are available full text.
  5. Applied Science and Technology Abstracts . Covers articles in the engineering, technology and business fields.
  6. Emerald Library.  This resource is contains a number of articles concerning information technology and management.
  7. Factiva.  Its Publications Library covers over 8000 publications (full text) back to early 1980's.
  8. Faulkner Advisory for IT Studies. This provides excellent information on information technology.
  9. Lexis Nexis Academic.  Provides full text of journals, newspapers, and wire services relating to business information.  It also has full text legal materials such court decisions, legislation and regulations.  The service is available via the Web.
  10. Research Library.  Covers over 1800 journals and newspapers.  Some journal articles are available in full text.

Electronic Journals
Another source of full text journal articles is the electronic journal (a.k.a. e-journal).  We have access to many e-journal collections through a variety of sources.  To access them, click on this URL: http://www.lehigh.edu/library/ejournals/.  The following source is a good one to use for your research.  It is:
  1. Emerald Library. See Journal Indexes section for more information.

  3. CIO.com. This site offers good information on information technology.
  4. Informationweek. This is available via ABI-Inform Global. Its specific URL is http://asa.lib.lehigh.edu/cgi-bin/pubid?Pub=11647 and at the Informationweek's site http://www.informationweek.com/maindocs/archive.htm.
  5. Wall Street Journal. This is available via ABI-Inform Global. Its specific URL is http://asa.lib.lehigh.edu/cgi-bin/pubid?Pub=7510.

World Wide Web
Using a search engine, e.g., Google, you will find information that may be useful.  Examples are government, associations, and companies. .  They provide facts, figures, and reports that may be important to your research.  There are multi-search engines that makes searching the Web more efficient.  Dogpile.com is an example of these multi-search engines.  Its URL is http://www.dogpile.com.  Remember: anyone can put up a web page with information. Is the information on the web page reliable?

Statistical resources on the Web are:

  1. Company Web Pages.  These are good sources of company information but REMEMBER the companies that issue this information maintain these pages.
  2. Bureau of Economic Analysis.  Its URL is http://www.bea.doc.gov/.
  3. Bureau of Labor Statistics.  Its URL is http://www.bls.gov/.
  4. Federal Statistics site.  Its URL is http://www.fedstats.gov/.
  5. U.S. Census Bureau.  Its URL is http://www.census.gov/

There are additional resources including web sites that can assist you in locating information on an industry, legal information, marketing, etc.  They are:

  1. Aerospace Industries Association of America (AIA).  URL is http://www.aia-aerospace.org/.
  2. American Petroleum Institute.  URL is http://www.api.org.
  3. Grocery Manufacturers of America.  URL is http://www.gmabrands.com.
  4. National Confectioners Association of the U.S. (NCA).  Its URL is http://www.candyusa.org.
  5. National Pharmaceutical Council (NPC).  URL is http://www.npcnow.org.

Off Campus Library Services/Proxy
To obtain information on library services for off campus students, go to the Off-Campus Library Services.  Its URL is http://www.lehigh.edu/library/guides/distance_ed.html.  Proxy is handled by using the Off campus button () on the Databases page. When you click on the button, a ID/PW box appears. Type in your AFS ID/PW, click ok, and then you can search the selected database.
