Company and Industry Information
These resources can be used to locate information on industries. They are:
- Associations Unlimited. Good for finding associations related to the industry and company.
- Factiva. It has quantitative and qualitative material on companies and industries.
- Standard and Poor's NetAdvantage. This is a compendium of financial information concerning companies, industries, mutual funds and stocks. It includes brief information profiles on countries and investment trends. Its Industry Surveys is part of the service.
Journal Indexes and Other Resources
Locating articles with quantitative and qualitative information on companies and industries may be found using these indexes. Some indexes have full text articles.

- ABI-Inform Dateline. Indexes resources with local and regional business news coverage of companies, business and the economy.
- ABI-Inform Global . Indexes over 1400 journals in management and business. Coverage is from 1987 for many journals. About 45% of the articles are available in full text.
- ABI-Inform Trade & Industry. Indexes resources with a trade or industry focus
- Academic Index (Expanded).Covers many subject areas including information technology. Many articles are available full text.
- Applied Science and Technology Abstracts . Covers articles in the engineering, technology and business fields.
- CQ Researcher. Your complete source on the most current and controversial issues of the day with complete summaries, all the pros and cons, bibliographies and more.
- CQ Weekly Report. This is your weekly source covering Capitol Hill with legislative news and analysis of issues.
- Emerald Library. This resource is contains a number of articles concerning information technology and management.
- Factiva. Its Publications Library covers over 8000 publications (full text) back to early 1980's.
- Faulkner Advisory for IT Studies. This provides excellent information on information technology.
- Lexis Nexis Academic. Provides full text of journals, newspapers, and wire services relating to business information. It also has full text legal materials such court decisions, legislation and regulations. The service is available via the Web.
- Lexis Nexis Statistical. This is an index of statistics that were previously published in the print indexes that are listed above. Also this is compilation of statistics from a variety of sources some of which are available in print and/or on the fiche at Fairchild Library. NOTE: Web version does not have all of the statistics that are available in print.
- PsycInfo.
This covers research psychology and related fields including business topics, e.g. consumer marketing.
- Research Library. Covers over 1800 journals and newspapers. Some journal articles are available in full text.
- Sociological Abstracts . This covers research in sociology and related disciplines such as the social and behavioral sciences. Also research coverage includes
social psychology and group interactions
- WestLaw Campus Covers laws, court cases, and related topics at the Federal and State levels.
Electronic Journals
Another source of full text journal articles is the electronic journal (a.k.a. e-journal). We have access to many e-journal collections through a variety of sources. World Wide Web
Using a search engine, e.g., Google, you will find information that may be useful. Examples are government, associations, and companies. They provide facts, figures, and reports that may be important to your research. There are multi-search engines that makes searching the Web more efficient. Dogpile.com is an example of these multi-search engines. Its URL is http://www.dogpile.com. Remember: anyone can put up a web page with information. Is the information on the web page reliable?
Statistical resources on the Web are:
- Company Web Pages. These are good sources of company information but REMEMBER the companies that issue this information maintain these pages.
- Bureau of Economic Analysis. Its URL is http://www.bea.gov/.
- Bureau of Labor Statistics. Its URL is http://www.bls.gov/.
- Federal Statistics site. Its URL is http://www.fedstats.gov/.

Plagiarism
The intellectual crime of plagiarism involves the use of another person's written material without proper acknowledgement of that source. An excellent tutorial create by the librarians for students is Tutorials for Research Success. One is Avoiding Plagiarism. This provides excellent examples of what is and is not plagiarism. Along with this the Footnotes section (see below) will provide examples of the proper methods for footnotes and bibliographies.
