Federal
Decennial Population Census Schedules
Seventy
years after conducting each U.S. Census of Population, the Census
Bureau makes available copies of the original population schedules.
These "schedules" contain identifying information on
all the people recorded during that particular census. This information
is often of interest to persons doing genealogical research.
While the
information collected varies from Census to Census, typical
information contained in the schedules may be : name, relationship
to head of household, sex, race, marital status, number of children,
year of immigration, occupation, etc.
The Lehigh
library has purchased microfilm copies of these population schedules
as they have been released. For the most part the collection
focuses on Lehigh, Northampton and Philadelphia counties, although
for some of the earliest censuses we hold more counties from
around the state of Pennsylvania.
