Naming Conventions
Are you wondering where everything in Banner gets its name? Each "object" (form, job, or table in Banner) has a unique, 7-character name (for example, GUAUPRF). The first 3 letters in each name give you basic information about the object. The last four positions provide a unique identifier for the form, job, or table. Let's look at what the first 3 positions mean.
Position 1
The letter in Position 1 tells you which Banner system "owns" the form, job, or table. For example, forms, jobs, and tables that start with the letter S are part of the Banner Student system. Forms, jobs, and tables that start with the letter G are part of the Banner General system.
Position 2
The letter in Position 2 tells you which module in a particular Banner system "owns" the form, job, or table. For example, forms, jobs, and tables that start with the letters SA are part of the Admissions module in the Banner Student system. Forms, jobs, and tables that start with the letters GL are part of Letter Generation module in the Banner General system.
Position 3
The letter in Position 3 tells you information about the type of form, job, or table. For example, inquiry forms that belong to the Admissions module in the Banner Student system start with the letters SAI. Reports, processes, rule tables, or repeating tables that belong to the Letter Generation module in the Banner General system start with the letters GLR.
