AAUW International Fellowships
Description: International Fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research in the United States to women who are not United States citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate study at accredited institutions are supported. Several fellowships are available for study outside of the U.S.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program
Description: The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program provides scholarships to U.S. undergraduates with financial need for study abroad, including students from diverse backgrounds and students going to non-traditional study abroad destinations. Established under the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000, Gilman Scholarships provide up to $5,000 for American students to pursue overseas study for college credit. Students studying critical need languages are eligible for up to $3,000 in additional funding as part of the Gilman Critical Need Language Supplement program. Boren Scholarships
Description: Boren Scholarships provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate students to add an important international and language component to their educations. We focus on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad.

China Scholarship Council
Description: The China Scholarship Council, affiliated with the Chinese government, provides information about numerous Chinese universities, programs and Chinese government scholarships for studying abroad in China. You can also find application requirements, tips for study abroad planning and preparation, and facts about China in general.

Critical Language Scholarships for Intensive Summer Institutes
Description: The CLS Program provides fully-funded seven to ten week group-based intensive language instruction and extensive cultural enrichment experiences held overseas at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels (beginning not offered for Azerbaijani, Chinese, Persian or Russian) for U.S. citizen undergraduate, Master’s and Ph.D. students.

Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships
Description: The scholarship is provided for intensive language study and cultural immersion in another country for three or six months.  The sponsor provides scholarships to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries. Applications are considered for candidates interested in studying Arabic, English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swahili and Swedish.

DAAD Scholarships and Fellowships
Description: Scholarships, internships, and exchange programs designed for undergraduate students who wish to study in Germany. 
Deadline: May 15th and November 15th (annually)

Deborah Partridge Wolfe International Fellowship – Graduate
Description: The purpose of this fellowship is to provide financial assistance for African American women graduate students interested in studying abroad. Applicant must be an African American woman student interested in pursuing undergraduate or graduate study abroad. Applicant need not be a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Funds are also available for foreign students who wish to study in the United States.

EMGIP—Bundestag Internship
Description: EMGIP (Émigré Memorial German Internship Program) offers internship opportunities in the German parliament, the Bundestag, for US and Canadian students who are fluent in German.  The internships are two months long in positions matching the student’s interest and experience.

Emerging Markets Development Advisors Program
Description: The EMDAP is an opportunity for current students and recent graduates of U.S. MBA programs or MA programs in international management/ finance/development or international affairs/studies to provide management assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises in developing countries.

Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Program
Description: English Teaching Assistantships are offered in many countries worldwide.
Each ETA Program is designed by the host country, and individual elements may vary by country.
In most cases, ETAs:

  • Are placed in schools or universities outside of capital cities
  • Are assigned various activities designed to improve their students' language abilities and knowledge of the United States
  • Are fully integrated into the host community, increasing their own language skills and knowledge of the host country
  • May pursue individual study/research plans in addition to ETA responsibilities (see Tips for further information on Statement of Purpose for ETAs)

Applicants for English Teaching Assistantships can apply to only one country. Multi-country ETA projects will not be considered.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program
Description: The Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers fellowships for U.S. graduating seniors, graduate students, young professionals and artists to study abroad for one academic year. The Program also includes an important English Teaching Assistant component.

Gates Cambridge Scholarship
Description: Gates Cambridge Scholarships are awarded to outstanding applicants from outside the UK to pursue a postgraduate degree in any subject at the University of Cambridge.
The programme aims to build a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others.
Deadline: October 16, 2013

George Mitchell Scholarship Program
Description: The Mitchell Scholars Program, named to honor former US Senator George Mitchell's pivotal contribution to the Northern Ireland peace process, is designed to introduce and connect generations of future American leaders to the island of Ireland, while recognizing and fostering intellectual achievement, leadership, and a commitment to community and public service. Up to twelve Mitchell Scholars between the ages of 18 and 30 are chosen annually for one year of postgraduate study in any discipline offered by institutions of higher learning in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Applicants are judged on three criteria: scholarship, leadership, and a sustained commitment to community and public service. The Mitchell Scholars Program provides tuition, accommodations, a living expenses stipend, and an international travel stipend.

International Scholarships from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music
Description: ABRSM offer a total of eight International Scholarships each academic year; one undergraduate and one postgraduate at each of the four Royal Schools of Music.
These awards are offered in connection with, and on the recommendation of, each of the Royal Schools of Music.  The Scholarships cover full-fees and part-maintenance for the duration of the Undergraduate programmes and for one or two years of Postgraduate study.

internXchange, German Academic Exchange Service
Description: The sponsor offers an internship program to provide outstanding young journalism students – who may themselves come to have a significant influence on international opinion-shaping – with an opportunity to immerse themselves in the society, culture, values, and political attitudes in Germany. During this time of transition and change in transatlantic relations and the German-American relationship, this program will expose American students with a particular interest in Germany to the changing global political circumstances on location in Germany.

Karabakh Foundation “What do I know about Azerbaijan” essay contest
Description: The Embassy of Azerbaijan to the United States and the Karabakh Foundation, with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sport of the Republic of Azerbaijan, are proud to announce an essay competition, which will ask high school and college students in the United States to answer the question "What do I know about Azerbaijan?" Suggested essay topics range from a discussion of traditional Azerbaijani music to an analysis of Azerbaijani foreign policy.

10 winners will be selected by an expert group based on the content of the essay and the quality of the resource materials used. Winners will be invited on an all-expenses paid one week trip to Azerbaijan this June or July! During their travels, winners will visit historical monuments, view instructive presentations, and participate in volunteer activities and cultural exchanges.

Partnerships for International Research and Education
Description: The Partnerships for International Research and Education (PIRE) program seeks to catalyze a higher level of international engagement in the U.S. science and engineering community by supporting innovative, international research and education collaborations. The program will enable U.S. scientists and engineers to establish collaborative relationships with international colleagues in order to advance new knowledge and discoveries at the frontiers of science and engineering and to promote the development of a diverse, globally-engaged U.S. scientific and engineering workforce.  This program provides educational opportunities for  Undergraduate Students, Graduate Students, Postdoctoral Fellows.

Research Internships in Science and Engineering, German Academic Exchange Service
Description: The sponsor provides support for undergraduate students from the US, Canada and the UK in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences and engineering for a summer research internship in Germany. RISE summer placements take place with research groups at universities and top research institutions across Germany. The RISE interns are matched with a doctoral student whom they assist and who will also serve as their mentor.

RISE Professional Grant
Description: Graduating seniors, graduate students, and undergraduate DAAD alumni in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences or engineering (or a closely related field) are invited to apply for an internship in a German company

Study and Internship (SIP) in Germany
Description: Run jointly by German Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS 7) and DAAD, SIP provides students the opportunity to study for a full semester together with German and international students at one of Germany’s leading universities of applied sciences followed by a six month, hands-on, professional internship experience in a company or research institute.  Students in the fields of engineering, computer science, natural sciences, business, management, economics, architecture, art and design, social work, or journalism are welcome to apply.

University Summer Course in Germany
Description: This program, meant to help undergraduates build their language skills while studying anything from film to politics to engineering, provides scholarships to attend a broad range of three- to four week summer courses taught in German at German universities which focus mainly on literary, cultural, political, and economic aspects of modern and contemporary Germany.  Extensive extracurricular programs complement and reinforce the core material.

Whitaker Awards
Description: A Whitaker International Fellow or Scholar experience will ideally advance an emerging biomedical engineering career, while also advancing the goal of increased international collaboration in BME.  Grantees will come from diverse geographic areas of the United States and they will conduct their Whitaker Fellow or Scholar activity in diverse regions of the world. Candidates may apply to study or do research in any country outside of the U.S., except Canada, because it is contiguous with the United States, and the international experience is minimized.
