Research
Interests:
Our
research group is active in the following areas of research: 1)
the relationship between bulk and interfacial properties in polymeric
systems; 2) the use of sequential adsorption from solution to build
well-defined thin films of organic, inorganic, and composite materials;
3) the use of electrochemistry to direct the regioselective formation
of self-assembled monolayers; and 4) room-temperature welding between
thin metal films on elastomeric supports.

Teaching
Interests/Philosophy:
Teaching
can clearly accomplish some concrete goals, measured in test scores
and course evaluations that appeal to those inclined to quantify
and tabulate values. But there are also values of another sort,
less quantifiable but no less important, such as the importance
to science of its students retaining and nurturing their natural
curiosity.
