Research Interests:

The general interest is on what role the covalently-bound

carbohydrate on glycoproteins has on the structural and

functional properties of these molecules in health and in disease. More specifically, I am interested in 1) the role of the aspartyl protease cathepsin D in the development and progression of breast cancer, and 2) the role of the enzyme alpha-L-fucosidase in sperm/egg interactions and fertilization in mammals.

Teaching Interests:

I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the general areas of biochemistry and analytical chemistry. Specialty courses are on complex carbohydrates (chm 473), pathophysiological chemistry (chm 437), and separation chemistry (chm 430).
