Travel Information

Winter School Waiver Form
- All participants are required to completely fill-out the waiver form and return a signed copy to Floe by email or fax at 610-758-6191 on or before January 4, 2008.

Air Travel

The air travel arrangements for US participants will be organized by the International Materials Institute for New Functionality in Glass (IMI-NFG) at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA.

If you are booking your own flights, make sure to keep your payment receipts, e-tickets, boarding passes, etc. for travel reimbursement after you return to the US. Note that per National Science Foundation rules, you must use a US air carrier, otherwise we cannot reimburse your airfare.

From Tokyo to Kyoto station - http://japanrail.com
We recommend that you should take the limited express train (Narita Express) from Narita Airport (New Tokyo International Airport) to Tokyo Station and then take the express train (Shinkansen) from Tokyo to Kyoto. It is 60 minutes from New Tokyo International Airport to Tokyo Station by train ,and 140 minutes from Tokyo to Kyoto by train. The train fare is about $142.

From Nagoya to Kyoto station - http://japanrail.com
Aside from the limitied express train (Shinkansen), you can also take the JR local train. The train fare is ~$22 and normally takes 1 hour and 20 minutes from Nagoya Station to Kyoto Station. Please note that you need to take the train bound to Maibara at Nagoya Station then change train at Maibara to Kyoto Station.

Food & Lodging

Rooms have been reserved at Holiday Inn Kyoto for lecturers and students attending the winter school from January 5-16, 2008. Confirmation numbers will be available soon. The hotel is located in the Northeast part of the city, near Kyoto University particularly, the FIFC. The location is convenient for sightseeing to most of the major tourist attractions in Kyoto, most of which can be reached within minutes by bus.

Breakfast is included in the hotel. All participants will have lunch and dinner together near the campus except on January 5th, 6th (except reception),12th & 13th. All meals not covered will be reimbursed subject to predetermined maximum amount of $15 for lunch and $20 for dinner. Please use the meal voucher/spreadsheet and save the receipts (inlcuding all valid travel-related expenses) for reimbursement. Scanned copies of the receipts are acceptable and can be submitted to Floe by email (mff205@lehigh.edu).
