USA or International Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) in Glass

PURPOSE
The purpose of the REU in Glass summer program is to introduce US undergraduate students to the opportunities in glass research through active involvement at a world class glass research facility, either in the US or abroad.
WHEN
May 29 - August 3, 2012 (10 weeks)
WHERE
Main REU program is held at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA 18015.
There are also limited opportunities at Penn State University, University Park, PA 16802 or abroad
STIPEND
$520 per week. All non local REU participants at Lehigh University will be provided housing with the Physics REU students.
DEADLINE
March 5, 2012. All materials must be received by this date. Late applications will not be accepted. If you have any questions or concerns, please send e-mail to srw208@lehigh.edu.
Initial placements may begin prior to this deadline, so please apply early.
ELIGIBILITY
Funding for this program comes from the National Science Foundation, which has set the following requirements:
- Applicant must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents
- Applicant must be enrolled in an undergraduate program and majoring in science and engineering
- A minimum GPA of 3.5 is recommended
- Laboratory, computer and other related experience will certainly be considered.
- Participants will be selected on the basis of academic merits, faculty reference(s) and suitability to the hosting program.
- Women, minorities and persons with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.

- Send ORIGINAL copy of your college transcript to address below.
A
copy or "unofficial" university transcript is acceptable and can also be e-mailed to srw208@lehigh.edu.
However, in the event you are made an offer, an ORIGINAL University Transcript will be required.
- Send letter of recommendation from your advisor to address below
- (Optional) Copy of current resume / CV in support of your application is useful but not mandatory.
Transcripts and letter of recommendation may be sent at a later date, but must be received by the deadline date.
Important: NO application will be considered until ALL the documentation listed above has been received.
WHERE TO SEND APPLICATION MATERIALS
We encourage the application form to be submitted online or by e-mail (no pdf files).
Your advisor is welcome to send their letters of recommendation directly by e-mail to Sarah Wing at srw208@lehigh.edu. The letter must be preferably on University headed paper, signed and sent as pdf copy by e-mail or mailed to the address below.
ORIGINAL Transcripts must be sent in a sealed envelope.
