Using SSH to Upload Lehigh Web Pages
Installing
SSH 3.2 is already installed on the public site computers all over campus.
Installing on campus
SSH 3.2 is on the Install Software list
Installing from Home
- To install it on your home computer, point a web browser to https://www.lehigh.edu/security/download/
- You will need to log in with your Lehigh Userid & password
- Scroll down until you come to SSHSecureShellClient-3.2.0.exe
- Click on that link and save the item to a temporary folder on your desktop.
- Then download the license file. click on the link marked license.dat.
- If you are using Netscape or Mozilla, click on the link marked license.dat.
Then go to the File menu, choose Save As and save that file to the same
temporary folder.
- In order to save the file correctly w/ IE, instead of left-clicking the
link, right-click it, choose "Save Target As..." and specify the
temporary folder to save in. The file name should automatically appear as
License.dat and the file type as Text document.
- Open your My documents folder and go to the temporary folder, then doubleclick
SSHSecureShellClient-3.2.0 to install the software.
- Import the license file into the program by starting SSH Client from your
programs menu, then clicking on Help and then on Import License File; select
the file license.dat and click Open.
- If you already have SSH 3.1 (or 3.0) installed, you will be asked whether
you want to upgrade your installation. Answer Yes.
To use SSH Secure File Transfer for web pages
In the Start menu, click on All Programs, then SSH Secure Shell. (If you already
had SSH Secure Shell 3.1 installed, the folder will still be called SSH Secure
Shell 3.1. But it has been updated to SSH 3.2).
Choose Secure File Transfer Client.
To connect to the server

- Either choose Connect from the File window, or press Enter to bring up the
Connect window.

- In the Hostname section, type ws2.cc.lehigh.edu.
(you can also use ns.cc.lehigh.edu)
- In the Username section, type your 4-digit lehigh Userid (or the
department's userid, if you are editing a departmental site)
- Leave the Authenication Method set to Profile settings. (If it is
set to Password, leave it that way; do not type in a password here)
- A message may come up, asking if it is all right to save the identification
key. Click 'Yes'.

In the Enter Password box, type in the password that goes with the userid,
and click Ok.

- In the left-hand window, you will see the contents of your computer.
- In the right-hand window, you will see the contents of your Network Server
space.
- Double-click on the folder labelled webspace in your Network server
space.
If you do not have a webspace folder,
- Go to the Operation menu and choose Go to Folder
- In the Go to Folder window, type /ahome/userid/public/www-data/
where userid is your (or the account's) userid.
- In the right hand section you will now see the contents of your webspace.
- Click on the folders and drives in the left-hand section to get to the folder
where you stored the files you want to upload, or where you want to download
the files.
To upload files
- Find the files in the left-hand section of the window, and select them.
- Make sure the folder (if any) in your webspace is open.
- Drag the files from the left hand-section of the window to the right-hand
section.
- If one or more of the files you drag over has the same name as file(s) already
on the web space, you will get the message:

- To approve all the files for download at once, click 'Yes to All'; to approve
them one at a time, choose 'Yes' and you will get a new message for each duplicate.
- The files will appear on the list in the right hand section of the window,
and in the record at the bottom of the window of what files were uploaded:

To download files
- Find the files or directories in your webspace (right-hand section of the
window)
- In the local files (left-hand section of the window) find the folder to
which you want to download the files.
- Click on the files or directories in your webspace (right side of window)
and drag them over to the local folder (left side of window).

- The files will appear in the left-hand side of the window, and at the bottom
of the window, you will see a list of the files transferred.
Deleting files
To delete a file in the webspace,
- Select the file from the list
- Right-click on the file and select Delete; or select Delete from the Operations
menu.

- You will be asked if you are sure you want to delete the items. Click Ok.
- The items will be removed.
Disconnecting
When you are done using SSH:
- From the File menu, choose Disconnect

- Click OK to continue disconnecting
- From the File menu, choose Exit.
