Uploading web pages securely
Due to upgrades in our security programs, regular FTP and HTTP uploading
will be discontinued this spring. However, secure file transfer uploading
is not only possible but relatively easy.
Netscape Composer users
For those now using Netscape Composer to edit and upload their files,
they need only switch from http:// to https:// (secure http).
At the point of publishing, simply change the 'address to publish to' from
http://www.lehigh.edu/~userid/
(where
userid
is your Lehigh ID) to
https://www.lehigh.edu/~userid/
Dreamweaver, FTP, WS-FTP, WinFTP, GoLive, etc. users
Those using other Web page design/maintenance programs, including Dreamweaver,
will need to use 'secure file transfer' to upload web pages (uploading
relying on regular FTP will no longer work).
SSH includes a secure file transfer application, and can be installed
from the Install software Icon. Once SSH is installed,
-
from the Start menu, choose Programs -> SSH Secure Shell -> Secure File
Transfer Client.
-
In the client window, choose Connect from the File menu.
-
For the hostname, enter ns.cc.lehigh.edu, and log in as you normally
would.
-
Then select your webspace directory.
-
You can then copy and paste files into the directory, or use the Upload
function in the Operation menu, to upload the files.
