What is IMP?
IMP is Lehigh's new web-based mail client. The intended purpose of this mail system is for use by faculty or students who are away from campus or on vacation. This program allows Lehigh users to check e-mail from any computer connected to the internet without configuring a browser for Netscape mail. To use IMP, go to http://www.lehigh.edu/imp and log in with the normal lehigh username and password. PLEASE NOTE: This service is not intended to be used as the primary e-mail client and it does not replace Netscape mail (our recommended email method).
How does IMP compare to Netscape Mail?
IMP is somewhat different from the Netscape mail client -- it is simple to use, requires no setup, and can be accessed from any Web browser. However, it lacks the wide range of features offered through the Netscape mail client. You can send, read, and delete mail; create folders and move messages into folders; and send and receive attachments. IMP lacks many features that users want in their primary mail client (there is no address book feature, for example) and it should not be considered a replacement for Netscape mail.
Will using IMP cause problems with Netscape Mail?
Using IMP should have no effect on your ability to use Netscape mail. Changes you make to your mail messages in IMP will be reflected in your Netscape mail. For example, if you delete messages in IMP, the messages will be gone when you log into Netscape mail.
