LTS Policy for Beverages in *Public Areas

*Exceptions to this policy: The Special Collections, Media Center, and Media Production Services do not permit food or drink of any kind, at any time.

As of the fall 2000 semester Library and Technology Services modified its policy regarding beverages in public areas within the libraries and LTS-managed computing sites. Beverages will be permitted in closed, spill-proof containers such as travel mugs, screw top containers, or pull-top plastic bottles. These containers are not permitted: soda cans, paper cups, and styrofoam or plastic beverage and coffee cups, even with plastic lids. As in the past, food is not allowed in the libraries or LTS computing sites.

The purpose of having restrictions on food and drink is to aid in the preservation and care of library materials and electronic equipment, to maintain pest-free buildings, to reduce damage to the furnishings, to minimize litter, and to ensure a clean environment for study and work. LTS seeks continued compliance from the Lehigh community so that in the long term the environment in these facilities will foster scholarship and respect for others while protecting valuable collections and equipment. Recycle bins are now provided throughout the libraries and computing sites for beverage containers.

Those who violate the Food and Drink Policy will be asked to move to a designated snack area (the lower lobby of Fairchild Martindale Library and the outer lobby of Linderman) or to leave the library or computing site, or to dispose of unauthorized food or drink. If you have any questions about the policy, please contact Gail Kriebel at 83028.

Thank you for your cooperation.
