Setting Eudora 6 for Lehigh Email

Eudora is a simple mail client. The basic version can be downloaded from Eudora's website; depending on the purchase of subsquent licensing, you can run either the free, sponsored or commercial version. Eudora is not the official Lehigh email client, so only limited support can be provided by LTS.

After installing Eudora, rebooting and opening the program, you will be prompted to set up a mail account. If you already have Eudora configured for a mail account, you can add another, by going to the Tools menu and choosing Personalities, then right-clicking on the Personalities window on the left and choosing New.

The New Account Wizard will come up.

  1. In the first screen, click Next to begin the setup:
  2. In the Personal Information screen, enter your name as you would like it to appear on your email, and click Next:
  3. In the Email Address Screen, enter your full Lehigh email address (in the form userid@lehigh.edu) and click Next:
  4. In the Login Name screen enter your 4 letter/number Lehigh userid, and click Next
  5. In the Incoming Mail Server Screen
  6. For IMAP Location Prefix, enter mail/
  7. In the Outgoing Mail Server window
  8. On the last screen, click Finish.
  9. Once in Eudora, go to the Tools menu, and choose Options.
  10. In Options, click on Checking Mail in the left menu.
  11. Change the 'Secure Sockets when Receiving' to Required, Alternate Port. Then click OK.

If you ever wish to change the settings of your email account, you can do so from the Options dialog box.
You can also change these settings in the Account Settings dialog, which is accessed from the Personalities window. This window also lets you create alternate email accounts and edit the settings in those accounts.

Setting up LDAP directory Service

Go to the Tools menu and choose Directory Services

Highlight the LDAP entry in the Protocols section

Click on the New Database button

For the name, enter Lehigh

For the Host name, enter ldap.lehigh.edu

The port should be 389

Click on the Search Options tab.

In the Search Base section, enter dc=Lehigh, dc=edu

Click Ok.

In the Directory Services screen, click the checkbox next to Lehigh.

Note: Eudora does not have auto-search and auto-completion set up for directory services. You will need to search the directory and retrieve the email address separately from entering it in the To: section of message composition.
