Finding Government Information
at Lehigh
Since 1998 all Federal
government publications have records in ASA,
the Lehigh library online catalog. ASA is a web capable catalog
and any URLs (hotlinks to web sites) included in the records
of electronic publications will take you to directly to the
Internet versions of these materials. Congressional hearings
have been added to ASA since 1990 and the library is in the
midst of a project to include records for all government publications
from 1976 forward.
To search for government documents that do not appear in ASA
it is necessary to search the Monthly Catalog of United States
Government Publications. This catalog is available in printed
form in the Government Documents Department Reference Stacks
under the call number 015.73 U5m and dates back to 1936. Publications
issued since 1976 can be located by searching subject, title
or author in the GPO Monthly Catalog on FIRSTSEARCH , or use
the database, MarciveWeb
DOCS. MarciveWeb DOCS will indicate
if the document is one that the Lehigh Library selects through
the depository library system. Most of the Library's government
documents are shelved in the Documents Area, using the Superintendent
of Documents classification. The Government Documents Area is
on the second floor of the Fairchild-Martindale Library, South
Wing.
Some
documents have a Dewey Decimal call number and are integrated
into the Library's book and periodical stacks. United States
Geological Survey topographic maps selected by Lehigh University
are housed in the Government documents department.
Selected Pennsylvania government publications are also cataloged
in ASA. The Pennsylvania Documents collection is located adjacent
to the U.S. Hearings collection in the Government Documents
area of Fairchild Library.
