Collision Warning for Cyclists

Department: Computer Science and Engineering
Advisor: Mooi Choo Chuah

Abstract:
Cities of the future will be more connected than ever. With the advent of the driverless car, we will find that safety, security and reliability of travel systems are of the utmost importance. Current safety measures for bicycles focus on mitigating injury but do not engage in accident prevention. We present our Bicycle Alert System by Stereoscopic Odometry and Object-recognition Network (BASSOON), a novel Computer Vision and Machine Learning application to warn cyclists of oncoming threats using only low-cost COTS hardware.
