DEAN'S NOTE

Dear Lehigh Engineers,

Dean Stephen P. DeWeerth

Season’s Greetings from the Rossin College!

As the year — and my first semester as dean of engineering — draws to a close, I extend to all of you my sincere wishes for an enjoyable and restful holiday season.

The year 2016 has been one of significant progress for the Rossin College and for Lehigh University. With new leadership at all levels and bold new directions taking shape under Lehigh’s recently-announced ‘Path to Prominence’ initiative, 2017 promises to be one of even greater strides forward for our learning community.

Within this context, the Rossin College is engaging in a faculty-led initiative to envision its future in research and educational excellence. Over the past few weeks, teams have coalesced around the development of goals and plans in three broad theme areas: innovating our learning environments, enhancing our research impact, and developing areas of distinctive intellectual prominence for our future. These teams are comprised of, and chaired by, a diverse group of faculty members from across our College and across the University.

At a recent meeting of our Engineering Advisory Council, each team shared early vision and thinking on this process. I’m greatly encouraged by the enthusiasm demonstrated by our faculty leaders, and by the supportive guidance offered by our Council members. Stay tuned for information as this effort ramps up in the New Year.

While we are focused on our future, 2016 has certainly given us quite a lot to celebrate — from significant ‘lifetime achievement’ awards, to new research with exciting interdisciplinary focus, to the many achievements of our students and alumni. I invite you to read on to learn about some of these, and to visit our Web site and social media channels to stay connected.

I wish you a prosperous and exciting New Year, and thank you as always for your support of Lehigh Engineering!

Sincerely,
