Engineers design single stage
UAV wing.

Researchers in the Lehigh Composites Lab, led by associate professor of mechanical engineering and mechanics Joachim Grenestedt, created a 6m (20 ft) carbon fiber wing for research into the flight of unmanned aerial vehicles, or UAVs. The structure was completed in a groundbreaking, single-stage fabrication method; the wing, complete with outer skins, spar caps, six webs and integral trailing edge, was molded and cured all at once. The wing will be used as part of a high-altitude UAV planned by Grenestedt and his research team. The project garnered press attention from CompositesWorld, Unmanned Systems Technology, and other technology venues.
