Ecotech Marine, a company created by Lehigh Class of 2004 alumni Patrick Clasen and Tim Marks, has been the leader in providing advanced aquarium technologies over the past decade. So, how did those first 10 years in business go?
Founded in 2003 while Tim and Patrick were enrolled in Lehigh’s Integrated Product Development program, the firm achieved a 2010 a ranking of #302 in Inc. magazine's review of the 500 fastest-growing companies in the country. Later that same year, the firm found itself ranked just between Google and Microsoft on a Newsweek list of the top 10 companies that grew from college ideas into business juggernauts.
After Patrick and Tim graduated, the company set up shop in South Bethlehem and quickly grew from its first three employees to 72. Currently, its products are currently in use in more than 109 countries. "Aquariums were always a hobby for the three of us growing up, and we were able to turn that hobby into a passion in school and from that passion into a business," says Patrick in recent coverage from WFMZ-TV News.
