Position: Associate Professor

Address: Packard Lab
19 Memorial Dr. West
Bethlehem, PA 18015

Profile

Eugenio Schuster conducts interdisciplinary research at the boundary of control systems and energy systems, with emphasis on nuclear fusion and fission. His lab also explores control theory with a focus on nonlinear control, distributed parameter systems control, system modeling and identification, and fault detection. His team also investigates advanced computational fluid and plasma dynamics.

As director of Lehigh's Laboratory for Control of Complex Physical Systems, Schuster's current endeavors focus on the application of advanced control techniques to complex energy systems, such as nuclear fusion reactors (control of plasmas and magnetohydrodynamic flows), coal-based power plants, residential heating/cooling systems, and alternative energy systems. Other research interests include control of particle accelerators, control of mechanical systems, autonomous and cooperative control of robots/vehicles, and control of aerospace systems.

Schuster is a recipient of the NSF CAREER Award, and is a member of the Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International Scholars. He also a member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)., the American Nuclear Society (ANS), and the American Physical Society (APS). Schuster has also received fellowship support from the Fulbright Association, the Organization of American States, the Stock Exchange Foundation, and the Argentine National Commission of Atomic Energy. He has served as a lecturer at the University of California San Diego, a research intern at General Atomics and Sun Microsystems, and on the faculty of the National University of Quilmes and of University of Buenos Aires, both in Argentina.
