Profile

My research interests are related to: Bio-fluids and mechanics; bio-inspired engineering; fluid-structure interactions.

I have specific interests in unsteady fluid mechanics, biological flying and swimming, vortex dynamics, fluid instability, multiple-body fluid interactions/boundary interactions, cell motility, active structures, tensegrity structures and cellular mechanics. I also have related interests in marine hydrokinetic and wind turbines.

The approaches that I use are a combined program of theory, computations and experiments. I have developed an in-house unsteady boundary element method to study high Reynolds number unsteady flows. To perform wake analysis on experimental PIV an in-house fluid linear instability analysis tool has been developed, which can investigate convective and absolute instabilities. I have an in-house code for the static analysis of active pre-stressed pin-jointed structures with both integrated and remote actuation. I'm in charge of two low-speed (up to 50 m/s) wind tunnel facilities each with an 18" by 18" test section.
