Profile

Dr. Chan's research interests include the application of reactive processing to fabricate unique ceramic/metal structures, including cellular and nanopatterned materials, and the role of interfacial chemistry in determining the elevated temperature mechanical behavior of ceramics. Dr. Chan is also actively involved in research on processing and microstructural development of lead-based relaxor ferroelectrics for transducer/actuator applications and on the role of dopants and interfacial chemistry on diffusion limited processes in ceramics.

She is the author of more than 165 publications and a highly cited researcher in materials. She is recipient of Lehigh's Eleanor and Joseph F. Libsch Award for excellence in research, as well as the American Ceramic Society's Roland B. Snow award on five separate occasions. Dr. Chan is a member of the Materials Research Society anda Fellow of the American Ceramic Society (ACS) . She serves as a member of the executive committee of the ACS Basic Science Division, and has been an associate editor for the ACS Journal since 1999. She also serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Materials Science. Dr. Chan is affiliated with Lehigh University's Center for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology. Dr. Chan is also a co-founder of Mat/TER (Materials Teacher Educational Resource), an outreach program to middle and high school science teachers, and an active partcipant in Lehigh's Challenge for Success program for minority freshmen.
