Profile

Prof. Hwang leads one of the most active research groups in the department. He graduated with a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Cornell University in 1978. After twelve years of industrial experience at IBM, Bell Labs, GE, and GAIN, he joined Lehigh in 1988. He cofounded GAIN and QED; the latter became the public company IQE and remains the world’s largest compound-semiconductor epitaxial material supplier. He had been a Nanyang Professor at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and advisory professors at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, East China Normal University and University of Science and Technology of China. Most recently, he was a Program Officer for GHz-THz Electronics at the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research. He has published more than 300 refereed technical papers with the citation index h = 36 according to Google Scholar. He has been granted eight U. S. patents.

He is a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. His High-frequecny Test Lab is one of the best in academia.
