Ed Snyder graduated from Lehigh with a B.S. in electrical engineering in 1923 and immediately joined Public Service Electric and Gas. In 1950, he was made general manager of the electrical department. In 1965, he was appointed to the board and elected president of the company. Three years later, he became Chairman. In addition, Snyder was president of Lehigh's Alumni Association for several years. In 1968, he received an honorary doctorate of engineering from the university.
During his time at Lehigh, Snyder was a brother of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
Snyder died at his home in Summit, NJ in January, 1986. He was married to Virginia Snyder and had two children: Richard and Mary S. Close.
