David Schaper earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Lehigh University in 1943. While an undergraduate, he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, the Interfraternity Council, men's swimming team, and residence hall council, among other activities.
Schaper served with the Underwater Demolition Team of the Navy from 1943 to 1946 and worked for 27 years at the C.H. Fry Construction Company in Erie, Pennsylvania as president. He is retired as president of the Stabler Companies, Inc. Today he enjoys volunteering his time at the Boys and Girls Club and is involved with church activities. He is also a member of the YMCA and Rotary. Schaper and his late wife, Harriet, have three daughters. He splits his time between Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Hilton Head, South Carolina. Schaper is a member of the Asa Packer Society and the Tower Society and is a longtime supporter of the Lehigh Life Income program.
