"Typically, treatment for children and adolescents with ADHD and related behavior disorders has focused on reducing their symptoms and disruptive classroom behavior.  It is equally important to directly address their academic and peer relationship difficulties, because many times when academic and social functioning is improved, behavior control also improves.  Further, this allows us to focus on building strengths rather than just reducing deficits."

Inclusion for Preschoolers with Autism Spectrum Disorder:A Literature Review.

Abstract:
This literature review examines the outcomes of inclusion for preschoolers with autism spectrum disorder and their typically-developing peers. Results of investigations of developmental, cognition, language, social interactions, and behavior outcomes are all considered in order to determine the progress young children with autism spectrum disorder and their peers without disabilities make while attending inclusive schools. Peer-mediated interventions are also considered in order to determine the effect typically-developing children have on preschoolers with autism spectrum disorder when specific strategies are utilized. Conclusions are drawn on the outcomes of preschool inclusion programs and areas for future research are identified.
