NEW PERSPECTIVES ON PARENT MANAGEMENT TRAINING: CULTURALLY DIVERSE PARENT PREFERENCES
This presentation will describe an example of partnership-based research investigating the preferred components of parent management training (PMT) among low-income and ethnic minority caregivers. This investigation utilized quantitative and qualitative Q-sort assessments to determine caregiver preferences for different PMT components according to social marketing principles for specific consumer groups. Preferences for parenting program among caregivers living in high-poverty, urban areas of the Northeastern United States will be presented and discussed. Attendees involved with parent education for low-income and ethnic minority groups will learn more about culturally relevant preferences in PMT, potential ways to increase their effectiveness in working with them, and an appreciation of parenting heterogeneity within the target population.
