Monthly Updates
November - December 2007
Central Dauphin School District

The hard work continued through November and December at the three MP3 schools!  We have spent the last two months implementing skill groups, collecting and analyzing Progress Monitoring data, and adjusting instruction based on student performance.

The team at Phillips continues to excel at implementing RTI with minimal assistance from the Lehigh Team.  In this second year, teachers have appeared to embrace the process and value the positive effects for students.  The teams at Lawnton and Rutherford have done an amazing job getting things off and running.  They have worked closely with the Lehigh team to determine what will work best for their school and their students.

At all three schools we have focused on providing high quality instruction for all students during skill groups.  Students and skill groups were adjusted at the beginning of December based on the decisions made at the grade level team meeting using the Progress Monitoring data.  In addition, we have begun to conduct fidelity checks of skill groups to provide teachers with feedback and allow for improvements to be made.  It is encouraging to see that teachers are working very hard to implement interventions with a high level of integrity.  This can only serve to benefit the students.

While evaluating individual student progress is an important component of MP3, it is also important that we address overall progress at the school and grade levels.  As a result, the data team at each building has reviewed progress toward school improvement goals set at the start of the school year.  This review of progress occurs monthly at our data team meetings.  Goals and objectives that were set are reviewed and progress toward those goals is evaluated.  If the goal has been met the team looks at what can be done to improve upon that goal.  If a goal has not yet been achieved we brainstorm why and develop a plan of action.  This process has helped to keep teams focused on our goals and to ensure that the highest quality instruction will occur.

As we prepare for the holiday break we would like to take this time to thank all those involved in the MP3 project for their hard work and dedication.  The staff at our three schools have worked very hard to make MP3 a success!

Thank You and Happy Holidays!
