Monthly Updates
May - June 2007
Central Dauphin School District

The months of May and June were very busy for Central Dauphin and MP3 staff members! In mid-May, we organized a team of data collectors who spent time at the Phillips, Lawnton, and Rutherford elementary schools administering the DIBELS, Maze, and other reading passages to students. Once all data were collected, the Data Decision Making Team (DDMT) at Phillips met to review data and the progress students had made over the past school year. The DDMT also looked for trends or patterns in the data to aid in planning for next school year. The grade level teams had the opportunity to review their data and to discuss progress and anticipate areas of need for September. As recognition for a job well done, the Lehigh University project staff treated Phillips teachers to a luncheon in June. All had a good time eating, socializing, and reflecting on the past year.

In June, the Lehigh University MP3 staff and Deb Fulton from PaTTAN worked together to organize professional development sessions and MP3 meetings for the Governor’s Institute to be held the week of July 8th at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. Teachers will receive training in effective instruction and Response to Intervention (RtI) components, including teaming. Additionally, there will be time for the three MP3 schools to meet and review this past year’s data to identify areas of need and to brainstorm instructional strategies for addressing those areas. We will work with the staff from each school to plan a calendar for next year and to discuss scheduling and teams.

The Lehigh University staff also has been working with Deb Fulton and Mary Kay Gainor, MP3 coordinator in Central Dauphin, to prepare for upcoming professional development days in August. Trainings will be held at PaTTAN and teachers will receive more information about MP3 and how to teach reading effectively. We are looking forward to September and our second year of implementation of MP3 with excitement!! Our two additional schools, Lawnton and Rutherford, are anxious to get started. Phillips teachers, our old pros, are ready to start their second year. We learned much about the implementation and maintenance of an RtI model during the first year and we are ready to begin our second!
